Join us for a Memorial Café led by death doula and artist Zafira Vrba Woodski. Over coffee and cake, we come together to talk about death, life, and memories. Everyone, no matter, whether you're grappling with the loss of a loved one, or simply curious about this often-taboo topic, is welcome to share their story, ask questions, or simply listen. Feel free to bring along something that's dear to your heart and reminds you of a loved one or a cherished moment together – this could be a photo, a piece of jewelry or even a special song.

More about the program

The hostess, Zafira Vrba Woodski, will give an introduction and be on hand to offer guidance and insights throughout the afternoon, creating a space for open and honest conversation.

The primary language will be English, but don't let that stop you from joining.

The event and fika are free of charge.

Although it's a topic that concerns us all, talking about death and grief can still be a taboo subject. All too often, we don't have a space where we feel comfortable discussing our feelings and experiences. With the the Memorial Café, we want to normalize these conversations, break down those barriers and create a safe, supportive environment where you can openly share your thoughts and feelings and we can all feel more connected and accepted in our grief.

The Memorial Cafe is not a support group or therapy session, but rather a place to come together and a chance to honor our loved ones and acknowledge the impact they had on our lives, while also reflecting on our own mortality and the legacy we want to leave behind.

The event is hosted by Zafira Vrba Woodski, a certified death doula, artist and trans activist. Zafira works with death in art and magic and regularly hosts Death Cafés for the trans communities and Dinner with Death for various constellations and groups. As an Interfaith Minister Zafira also offers queer and trans communities rituals and ceremonies to mark transitions, gender affirming care, memorials and celebrations of both relationships and breakups.

This event forms part of Continuing Bonds, an exhibition about grief and memory with work by Johan Steinmetz, curated by Johanna Rüskamp.
Continuing Bonds is on show at Kungsholmen International Library from May 31 - June 05, 2023 during the library’s opening hours.
